Dementia Resources for First Responders and Family Care Partners: De-escalation and Communication Strategies

Certified First Responder Dementia Trainer (CFRDT) - Become a Certified Trainer to present the Dementia Care Seminar specifically for First Responders. This class is recommended for Trainers who currently work in a First Responder field and provide instruction to First Responders, Law Enforcement, EMT, Fire Fighters, Emergency Preparedness, Search and Rescue, Etc. This 8-hour Trainer certification program includes all the necessary tools to conduct the 5-hour comprehensive "Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia Care Seminar for First Responders." The Trainer certification seminar not only covers key aspects of dementia but also elopement, driving concerns, abuse, and neglect. If needed, the NCCDP can provide county-wide, state wide, and/or municipality First Responder training. Contact the NCCDP about rates for training in your state and/or municipality.

Dementia Training: First Responders and Care Partners - The Florida State University College of Medicine is excited to share a dementia training resource that the GWEP REACH Program, the Dementia Care and Cure Initiative (specifically TMH Memory Disorder clinic and the Alzheimer’s Project), and Aging Advocate have created to educate first responders and family care partners. This 22 minute video explains the basics of dementia, communication tips and supportive interventions, critical thinking strategies, and ways that families can be prepared when crisis situations occur. GWEP REACH kindly asks those who watch the video to please give your feedback in a brief survey: Click here to complete the survey.
